NEO Magazine selected BABYMETAL as the winner of Best Musical Act 2014 on the NEO Awards 2014. They also had the chance to interview Su-Metal to talk about their awesome 2014, being rated as band of the year and a comment for the UK readers. Details of the Award and Interview below.
NEW Magazine Interviews Su-Metal about Best Musical Act Award 2014
Last year, we awarded the GazettE the prize for Best Musical Act, but this year, they came in second place to BABYMETAL – the heavy metal trio who have taken the world by storm in the past 12 months. These three young Japanese girls have won over everyone from hardened metal fans to celebrities like Lady Gaga and Yoshiki. They’ve also played at Tokyo’s Budokan to 20,000 people, before embarking on a world tour that took in France, the UK, Canada, and the US. BABYMETAL were so thrilled with their win that Su-Metal even agreed to give us a mini interview on the highlights of the last 12 months!
NEO: How has 2014 been for you?
Su-Metal: "It was BABYMETAL’s first time playing in Europe this year and we visited many new places and got to experience many new things, so it has been a great year! One of my biggest most unforgettable memories would be our performance at SONISPHERE, playing a metal festival outside of Japan at that level was nerve-wracking but thanks to that performance it feels like BABYMETAL [can] now [be] seen by so many. I also can’t believe that we played London two times in such a short span and that so many people came out to see us."
NEO: What does it mean to you to be rated band of the year?
Su-Metal: "Thank you so much for voting us Band of Year!!! We have to send a big thank you out to all our fans for their continued support. I can’t believe the year is almost over but thanks for a wonderful 2014!! Once again I am just so amazed at the response we have been receiving so far."
NEO: And do you have any comments for our readers?
Su-Metal: "BABYMETAL will continue to strive to be the ONLY ONE combining “cute” with “metal” and continue doing what we do.
I can’t wait to be back in the UK again and I do hope that you will come to our show the next time we are in town. If you have never seen BABYMETAL before, you must come when we are back in the UK!!"
