On March 13 Sakura Gakuin Nendo 2015 held its last Open Class, "Archeology Of The Song 2015" at The Grand Hall in Tokyo. Read the report by Natalie, including links to original songs of the songs the girls sang in the event! Plus a beautiful album of photos.
Sakura Gakuin Nendo 2015 "Archeology Of The Song" Open Class
The last Open Class of the Fiscal Year "Archeology Of The Song" was held by Sakura Gakuin's principal Kuramoto. This class is carried by students's own original contents selecting the music to sing the lyrics a cappela with their own interpretation and presentation. The first period students were: Ooga Saki, Shirai Saki, Mirena Kurosawa, Megumi Okada, Maaya Asou, Soyoka Yoshida. The second period students were: Rinon Isono, Sara Kurashima, Aiko Yamaide, Momoko Okazaki, Marin Hidaka, Kano Fujihira. Principal Kuramoto along with Fukei-san present at the venue watched each Sakura Gakuin student being announced one by one.
The first was Soyoka Yoshida with the 1985 smash hit "Touch" of Yoshimi Iwasaki (listen here). Maaya Asou next performed "Anata Ni Aete Yokatta" by Kyouko Koizumi (listen here), after the song she explained the sympathy of the lyrics. Shirai Saki was listening, "at first I was in tears looking at the place when you were singing, you are fine but I was nervous." Ooga interrupts with "Saki-Chan always with a mom's sense", all the venue wrapped in laughter.
Megumi Okada selected "Iezu No I Love You" of Kan, (listen here) recommended by her mother, she picked the lyrics "If you don't eat your lunch, will be sleepless at night". Continued Mirena Kurosawa with "Shoujo A" by Akina Nakamori.(listen here). After her talk and singing received a big applause from the Fukei.
Kano Fujihira presented "Country Road" by Honna Youko (listen here), from the movie "Whisper Of The Heart". Momoko Okazaki singing "Watashi Ga Obasan Ni Natte Mo" by "Chisato Moritaka" (listen here), song that she fell in love to listening to it on Television. Aiko Yamaide with her choice "Ah Yokatta" by Hana*Hana (listen here), Shirai Saki who will graduate on March 27 showed gratitude for singing the song. (Sakura Gakuin has a song called Hana*Hana).
Marin Hidaka and Sara Kurashima selected the same song, "Yasshisa Ni Tsutsumareta Nara" by Yumi Matsutoya (listen here). It was the first time in the history of the "Archeology Of The Song" that two people sang the same song. When their presentations ended Kuramoto proposed, "why you don't sing together?", their singing together in a single microphone received a big applause.
Was the last "Archeology Of The Song" Open Class for the Middle School Third Graders Rinon Isono, Ooga Saki and Shirai Saki. Shirai selected "Let It Be" by The Beatles (listen here), was interpreted with the meaning of "the future is coming naturally". In addition she thinks she is suffering anxiety for Sakura Gakuin's future but "I believe Sakura Gakuin will be fine next year with the Juniors. The future is coming naturally."
Ooga Saki with "Tanjou" by Miyuki Nakajima, (listen here) since the song means "the birth" she introduced to the audience a photo from her birth. "There may be defects, but I have also gotten used to having hopes in everyone. After I graduate from Sakura Gakuin, when that painful moment happens, such as a moment I could not be overcome, I want you to remember me by the song I sang today, "The Birth."
The song selection for Rinon Isono, the Students Council President, was "Mirai E" by Kikoro (Moa Kikuchi sang this song in Nendo 2014). She mentioned Tamaki Chiharu when she was Junior High School Third Grader and was sympathetic with the lyrics she wrote towards her mother, and after she (Rinon) said "Mom, thank you" and sang "Mirai E" towards to her mother who visited the venue.
